Mission Statement

EquiPhysics is a nonprofit research and education institute advancing the science of equine physiology, including movement, respiration, and cardiovascular function. Through biomechanics, data science, and physics, we investigate the systems that underlie equine performance, welfare, and recovery. Our work supports the rehabilitation of performance horses, including off-the-track Thoroughbreds, and fosters inclusive STEM education through hands-on learning.

Our Story

Our team has spent decades working at the intersection of animal biomechanics, equine-assisted services, and horse training. In 2023, we launched the Systems Biomechanics of the Horse program at the University of Arizona. This initiative brought together student research on off-the-track Thoroughbred asymmetries, studies of horse–rider relaxation through breathwork, and courses that combined biomechanics with equine science. It also included a Humanities Seminar course that explored horses in motion from both scientific and cultural perspectives.

EquiPhysics was founded in 2025 to expand this work beyond the university. As a nonprofit, we are building greater outreach in both education and research—connecting students, scientists, and horse professionals with the broader community. Our goal is to advance equine science in a way that improves horse welfare, deepens human–horse partnerships, and opens new pathways for learning.
