Dressage Clinic Format
Day 1 (January 12): We will begin with coffee and introductory remarks at 8:30 am. The morning will consist of panel discussions, workshops, and technical demonstrations. Lunch will be from about 12-1 pm. In the afternoon, Dominique will work with horses and riders.
Days 2 and 3 (January 13-14): The clinic will start at 9:30 am with coffee and introductory remarks. The first ride will begin at 10 am. We will break for lunch from 12 - 1:30 pm. The clinic will end around 4:00 pm each day. The gates to AMEC will be open 9:30-10:30 am and 1:30-2:30 pm. Please contact Laura Miller at 919-943-2434 if there are problems with access.
The general format is Day 1: Establishing understanding; Day 2: developing the work; Day 3: refining the results. Riders will lunge and work their horses in hand under Dominique’s instruction at the start of each session, followed by work under saddle. When beneficial, Dominique may work your horse in the morning.
All riders and auditors are encouraged to read Dressage for the New Age before the clinic. You may also find more information about Dominique Barbier and French Classical Dressage here.
Note for riders: Dominique’s sessions are about 30 minutes each ($200/session). You are encouraged to ride twice on days 2 and 3 if possible. You can find a description of Dominique’s clinics here.
Information for riders bringing horses
Riders may bring their own horses or, with prior approval, arrange to use an on-site horse from the EquiPhysics program. Horses must have proof of a current negative Coggins test (within 12 months) and be UTD on vaccinations.
Riders are welcome to trailer-in during the day for free. Temporary stalls are available at AMEC and must be reserved in advance when registering. Stalls are $20/day for self-care. Please bring your own bedding.
Riding slots are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of full registration and health documentation.
